Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 sales have reached 65 million units so far, and has also announced the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in global markets.

The company has begun making the PS5 Pro available, a version with improved specifications for running and displaying games, at a price starting at $700, and may be available in specific markets at higher prices.

Regarding PlayStation sales, Sony revealed in its report for the third fiscal quarter of 2024 a decline in PlayStation 5 sales, with a significant increase in game sales, as the company witnessed a great demand from its customers to buy games.

Although the device achieved strong sales upon its launch, it took a few years before it surpassed the record sales figures achieved by previous versions.

PlayStation 5 sales declined in this quarter compared to the same period in 2023, as the company’s sales declined by about 1.1 million units.

Sony announced last September that PlayStation 5 sales had surpassed 61.7 million units worldwide, meaning that it sold only 3.3 million units during the past quarter.

On the other hand, game sales increased by 14.9%, which helped compensate for the decline in device sales, and this increase is estimated at about 77.1 million copies of games sold.

Sony also indicated that the number of subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service remained stable at 116 million subscribers, without any increase or decrease in numbers, especially after Sony raised subscription prices, but continued to add new features, which encouraged subscribers to stay and not cancel the subscription.
